The family of late Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd has broken their silence following his sudden passing at the Platte County Courthouse last Thursday. In a heartfelt statement shared via Facebook, his brother Brian Zahnd described the loss as a staggering blow that has left their hearts shattered. While mourning his death, the family also sought to address the cloud of uncertainty surrounding an active investigation launched by the Missouri State Highway Patrol shortly after his passing.

According to the family, the state highway patrol investigation is unrelated to the cause of death and stems from a specific administrative error. They explained that Zahnd had mistakenly used his official county email account to express that he would not support the reelection of a particular candidate. The family emphasized that such a lapse in judgment was uncharacteristic of him, suggesting that his mental health struggles played a role in the mistake and noting that he would not have made such an error if he were in full health.

Legal experts and colleagues are urging the public to avoid speculation while the probe continues. Former assistant prosecutor Dawn Parsons noted that because the investigation remains open, it is possible other individuals could be involved, though she cautioned that an ongoing inquiry does not automatically imply guilt.
